2022 / 2023 Seed Potato Varieties and Ordering Information

Seed Potatoes available in the shops NOW

All potatoes are available for pre-order, except for Carolus.
Most are in nets of 2kg. These are all £3.50 per net (Jazzy 2.5kg £4.00) , a small increase from last year. Any potatoes, not pre-ordered, will be available in shops on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.  Carolus will be sold loose in smaller quantities for people who want to only have a small amount or want something new.

First Earlies

Accord: Accord is a very popular white early that produces large numbers of tubers. Accord tubers are oval in shape with cream skin and flesh, a great variety for baking, boiling and salads yet versatile enough for chips, mashing or roasts too. Accord potatoes have been noted to have good resistance to common and powdery scab. As with most first earlies, Accord can typically be harvested around 13-15 weeks from planting.

Foremost: Very good cooking qualities and a gardener’s favourite for flavour.
Good for boiling. Resistant to scab.

Rocket: Rocket' is a very heavy cropping variety with pure white flesh, which is waxy and soft at first digging. It has good all round disease resistance including golden eelworm.

Second Early

Kestrel: Excellent flavour and disease resistance. The best performing second early and good for exhibition. Blight and scab resistant. Good for chips and roasting.

Nicola: Not only do the smooth oval tubers of 'Nicola' look good, but they are also one of the tastiest salad potatoes. Easy to grow in pots, bags or borders, they produce a generous crop, and as they store well, you will usually be able to enjoy them over a couple of months.

Maincrop

Desiree: Excellent red type, strong flavour, waxy potato. Good for exhibition.
Very drought resistant. Heavy cropper. Good for general purpose.

King Edward: Excellent cooking and eating quality.

Maris Piper: Good general-purpose variety. Eelworm resistant.

Picasso: High yielding, very attractive red-eye variety. Good keeping qualities with a mild taste.
Good for general purpose.

Sarpo Mira: Bred in Hungary and with good resistance to blight. It also has good drought-resistance and slugs don’t seem to like the pink-skinned tubers. Sarpo Mira keeps well once dug. It has floury flesh and is a great all-round choice, being especially suitable for roasting, baking and chipping.

Salad

Charlotte: Reliable, high yielding, waxy salad variety with good flavour. Easy to grow.
Good for boiling and salad.

Jazzy: Large oval salad potatoes. High in flavour, low in fat. Good resistance to scab and blight.
This variety is sold in a 2.5kg Net

BONUS VARITEY – (NOT FOR PRE-ORDER)

Carolus: Carolus is an attractive potato with a distinct red eye. This is a gardener friendly variety with resistance to both foliage and tuber blight, making it ideal for growing on allotments and those who prefer to grow organically. Matures as a maincrop and has a slightly floury texture and yellow flesh.
This variety will be sold by the tuber/weight.
